Youth Services

DPL’s Youth Services room provides our youngest patrons with a fun & welcoming introduction to the library.

HVAC UPDATE:

Our HVAC work is progressing!  Starting on Monday, January 12th, our Youth Services Room will be unavailable.

We will be wrapping the books tightly to prevent any damage to them so they will be inaccessible, even to staff.  This means that we will not be able to pull materials that are placed on hold.  We cannot guarantee to fulfill holds past Wednesday, January 7th.

We are temporarily relocating a selection of materials, but we have limited space.  You will find some of our more popular titles in the room behind the Plug-in Bar (formerly the Friends’ donation area/reference room and then the temporary Used Book Sale Room.

If you use our Juvenile collection, please come in and stock up!  Remember that items are renewable in our online catalog or by calling our Public Services Desk.

The materials available to check out from our Youth Services room are noted in our online catalog with a “J” (for Juvenile) in front of the call number.

Our collection includes:

  • board books
  • picture books
  • early readers
  • kids’ fiction (including popular series)
  • non-fiction in a range of levels (up to a 12th grade reading level)
  • graphic novels &
  • chapter books

Story Times

Story Time is for children of all ages. We read stories based on a theme, sing songs, & speak rhymes. It’s fun and interactive.

Book Babies

Book Babies is story time for babies from birth to age 3 and their adults. We do bouncing rhymes and sing songs!

LEGO® Programs

On LEGO Morning, we’ll have our LEGO bricks out in the Youth Services Room from 10am – 12pm for kids to stop by & create at their leisure.  (We sometimes have LEGO Afternoons, too!)

LEGO Hour, meets in the Community Room for a 45 minute build session inspired by a challenge, followed by sharing of our creations.

Tweens & Teens

Kids ages 11 – 17 are welcome at the library, too!  We have a section of our bulletin board devoted to puzzles & coloring pages for older kids.  We also offer programs for tweens & teens.  Check our current calendar (linked above) for this month’s events!

This free program encourages you to read 1000 books to your newborn/toddler before they start kindergarten.  More information
