Youth Services
DPL’s Youth Services room provides our youngest patrons with a fun and welcoming introduction to the library.
The books, DVDs, and Kits available to check out from our Youth Services room are noted in our online catalog with a “J” in front of the call number. We have board books, picture books, early readers, kids’ fiction (including popular series), non-fiction in a range of levels (including some at a 12th grade reading level), graphic novels, & chapter books.
Story Times
Story Time is for children of all ages. We read stories based on a theme, sing songs, & speak rhymes. It’s fun and interactive.
Book Babies
Book Babies is designed for children from birth to age 3. We read short books, sing action songs, and participate in fingerplays around this month’s theme: Nursery Rhymes! Book Babies will help develop the abilities children will need when they learn to read.
LEGO® Programs
Elementary kids are invited to create a masterpiece using our LEGO® bricks. We offer a challenge or children can just use their imagination.
LEGO® Hours generally take place in the afternoon in our Community Room. LEGO® Mornings (or sometimes Afternoons!) are extended independent build times that take place in our Youth Services room.
Elementary Book Clubs
Our book clubs focus on books of interest to elementary-aged school children. We’ve had book clubs for Harry Potter, Dog Man, Little House on the Prairie, and more.
